Croatia includes Slavonia, Dalmatia and the island in the Adriatic. Croatia i called Republika Hravatska or just Hravatska in croatian. Croatia was recognized as an independant republic on 25 June 1991. This date is the official Independance Day of Croatia.
The croatian people call their own country "Our beautifull fatherland" and rightly so. There are over 1000 islands and reefs which are beatifully preserved. Six areas in Croatia are under protection of UNESCO's World Heritage Site. The entire old city of Trogir is included under this protection. Zagreb is the capital and an arts and cultural center with numerous museums and galleries, which houses world-renowed exhibits and festivals.
"Our beautifull fatherland" is also the first stanza of the Croatian national anthem ""Lijepa naša Domovino". Croatia is in size in the European middle group of countries with particular Denmark, Ireland, Slovakia and Switzerland. Croatia's area is 56,542 km2.
Croatia is an island nation with over thousand islands. Every one of them is different from the other. If you have seen one island - you'll still be missing another 1,184 small islands and rocks along the 1,777 km long Adriatc coastline. Only 47 of the islands are not inhabited - each island has something of its own and their own history and destiny.
The first visit to the Adriatic and islands is a journey into the unknown, but each subsequent trip to this country is a return into the beauties of Croatia and yet so different but always equally fascinating.
In Croatia llive a little under 4,5 million people, the majority are Croats but Croatia also host Serbs, Slovenes, Bosnians, Italiens and Czechs. In Zagreb live around 780,000 people. In Split, which is the second largest city in Croatia, live around 200,000 people.
The climate in Croatia is very different depending on where in the country you are. In the north and east is continental climate, by the coast mediterranean clilmate and in the south of Croatia is highland climate.
